A note from Arlan:This was really our first year of
operation. We achieved many of our goals and fell short on a few. We had an
excellent year with no accidents and only a few minor injuries, the most common
injury was a torn hamstring, which I saw on two occasions when pilots were
running out landings. I guess we aren't stretching enough. We have 13 new pilots and a large
number of pilots coming back next year to complete their training. My goal was
to train 15 pilots this year. With a little more cooperation from the weather I
would have reached that goal. My goal for next year will be to train 22 hang
glider pilots and 5 ultra-light pilots. We hope to have the 2nd tug
operational for the spring. We are continually refining our techniques and the
Kolb to get people in the air without delay and in lift when available. We will
start 2001 with five very experienced tug pilots and I expect to have 3 more
trained by the end of next year. We are now capable of getting a solo tow to
2000 ft and be back on the ground and ready for the next tow in less than five
minutes. The new tug will be more powerful and will help us further reduce our
turn around times. We saw a lot of personal bests this
year. The most notable being Larry Bunner's flight of 213 miles on May 24th. I
consider this a great achievement for Larry. Whether it was a record flight or a
first or a personal best it seems to give every pilot a huge grin and I am glad
to play a part in keeping people smiling. I would like to thank Joe Cirri,
Jeff, Regina, Lindsey and Lynette Little, Kevin Tjelle, Harold Miller, Shane Van
Etten, Dan Dougan, Joe Yobbka, Chris Grzyb, Margaret S, Linda C and Ron Stanley
for their contributions throughout the year. Arlan 815-325-1685
